I am a licensed independent clinical social worker with over 30 years clinical and managerial experience. I completed my Master's Degree from Boston University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1984. I have worked with diverse populations in a variety of settings including, inpatient psychiatric setting, dual diagnosis unit, residential programs, long term care facilities, court clinics, and correctional institutions, and have headed the Departments of several of the facilities in which I worked.
I have counseled adolescents and their families for many years, and for the past 15 years have worked with those who have mental health and substance abuse issues as well as their families. My experience has allowed me to be practiced at making assessments and differential diagnoses of persons with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse. I’m also familiar with crisis intervention and crisis stabilization strategies.
I have spent the latter part of my career working in corrections and the Trial Court and am an expert in the criminal justice field and am a Qualified Social Worker able to provide competent medical testimony in substance abuse and mental health hearings.
My understanding of mental illness is holistic – taking into account the situational, environmental and historical factors influencing the course of these illnesses. There has been specialization in helping families cope with the mental illness and substance abuse of loved ones, as well as working with clients who have mental health and/or substance abuse issues. My style is active listening and helping people develop and implement positive coping skills and life strategies.
I am available for telehealth sessions as well as in-person therapy at our Exeter Office
