Tara Richard is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor. She graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. She received her Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling, from Rivier University. Prior to joining the Counseling Center, Tara worked at Harbor Homes, Inc. She started as an employment counselor working with individuals who were diagnosed with severe mental illness. In this role Tara assisted with case management needs as well as treatment planning. Tara's most recent role, as a therapist with Harbor Homes gave her the opportunity to provide treatment as part of an integrated team of mental and medical health professionals. This allowed her to expand her therapeutic skills in a unique way.
Tara has worked in the mental health field since 2000, treating mainly older teens and adults, with varying mental health diagnoses. Her therapeutic style draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution Focused as well as Family Systems therapies. In addition, she also uses Motivational Interviewing and Mindfulness techniques to assist clients in achieving their therapeutic goals. She has an interest in assisting those with anxiety, mood disorders, dual-diagnosis or substance misuse, life transitions, trauma history and is comfortable and trained to work with other disorders as needed.
