Robert Philbrook is a licensed clinical professional counselor. He earned his Masters Degree in Counseling from the University of Southern Maine in 2014. Robert’s graduate internship included group addiction counseling at the Mercy Recovery Center in Westbrook and at Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, Maine.
Since graduating, Robert worked in private practice as a therapist in Portland and in Lewiston, Maine. In his practice, Robert utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, reality therapy, solution focused therapy, motivational interviewing interventions, existential therapy, and gestalt therapeutic interventions while providing a real world, authentic approach. Robert’s wide range of expertise includes grief, loss, depression, and sexuality issues involving individuals and couples. Other areas of experience include clients struggling with LGBT issues including Gender Dysphoria, intimacy, and acceptance issues. Robert’s involvement with the transgender population ranges from therapy, collaboration with your endocrinologist regarding hormone therapy, surgeries, and letters of referral to the appropriate resources. Robert’s professional and personal experience with addiction, the LGBT population, and the physically challenged underscore his belief that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
Robert helps clients of all ages to discover real-world meaning in their lives. Whether exploring the rituals of daily living or striving to understand self in the larger order of things. Clients are challenged to look within for value and meaning. Through self-awareness and personal responsibility we can know ourselves as profound, unique beings, each with a place in the network of lives. By providing a real-world existential approach to each client relationship, emphasis is on overall well-being through the integration of emotional and physical wellness.
