About Melissa Buchanan, LCPC, LADC

Melissa Buchanan is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the state of Maine. She has 10 years of experience working with adolescents and their families, adults, and couples. Many have sought help with co-occurring disorders such as a substance abuse, anxiety, life transitions, women’s issues, and relationship issues. She received her Master of Arts in Community Mental Health from Southern New Hampshire University, with a focus on the child and family.

Melissa supports adults and their families to draw from their personal strengths. She utilizes evidenced based treatments, such as CBT, Motivational Interviewing, DBT, family systems, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, with an overall integrated and person-centered approach. Helping others to identify and attain future goals, while setting objectives to attain them.

Melissa’s clinical approach is instinctively relational, and empathetic. She believes that people have an inherent ability for self-understanding, and positive change when supported through the counseling process.
