Lori Gato is a licensed clinical social worker practicing in the State of
Maine. She received her Masters Degree in Social Work at Florida State
University in Tallahassee Florida. Lori has 16 years of experience in the
social work field. She’s provided counseling to individuals, families, and
couples of all ages.
Lori started her career in a psychiatric hospital setting where she
provided acute care, long-term care and group therapy for people who were
experiencing a mental health or substance abuse crisis. She has also
worked in a private practice setting in Standish, ME where she provided
therapy for a dually diagnosed population including those with mental
health as well as substance abuse issues. Lori’s skill set allows her to
assist her clients in overcoming such problems as depression, anxiety,
trauma, chronic pain, grief and loss and addictions.
Lori’s most recent focus has included hospice care. In this role, she
provided end of life support and counseling to patients toward the end of
their life as well as assisting families of these terminally ill patients
with their grief. Lori has also provided community grief support, and in
that role has helped people through the loss of their loved ones as well as
helping the front-line medical staff cope with losses and the extreme
difficulty of their job during the coronavirus pandemic.
She has experience working with adults who have chronic illnesses
coinciding with mental health. One area of great interest to her is
people suffering with autoimmune disorders and she has completed
specialized training in Lyme Disease.
