About Kristen Walker, LCMHC, MLADC Available November 2021

Hi. I am Kristen Walker. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a Master’s Level Alcohol and Drug Counselor. Throughout our lives, we all need someone to listen and help guide us. Life provides us many significant successes and challenges and it is easy to feel overwhelmed. We all need to know, and sometimes be reminded, that we are all worthy of happiness, respect, compassion and love. It is not always easy navigating relationships and understanding one’s self-worth. I support individuals, couples and families explore and navigate through challenges of mental health and substance use. Our personal journeys are our own. I work from a stage of change model, for both mental health and substance use. We only know what we know and I support individuals in learning about themselves and more ways to be and feel successful. We all have the ability to not allow our emotions overpower our intelligence. Living with mental health and/or substance use challenges takes resilience and courage.

For the past twenty-three years, I have worked in a variety of settings; this includes in residential care settings for both adults and adolescents; community mental health, ACT (Assertive Community Treatment) and private practice. For the past fourteen years, I have worked within an Integrated Model of Care (mental health and substance use disorders). I believe in utilizing skills and models of care that have been proven to work and use many Evidence-Based Practices. I have an expertise in working with individuals with co-occurring disorders, substance use, addictions, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, mood disorders, thought disorders and disorders on the Schizophrenia spectrum. In addition, I work with families and couples. I am comfortable with Stages of Change, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Supportive Talk Therapy, Behavior Therapy, Holistic Therapy and Harm Reduction.

For the past several years, I have been part of a Leadership Team and part of a Risk Management Committee and led the Quality Improvement/Assurance Committee. In addition, over the past several years, I have clinically supervised others in the field gaining skills and supervision for licensure of their CRSW, LADC, MLADC and LCMHC. A few years back, I was trained by the NAMI Connect NH organization as a trainer of Suicide Prevention.

I look forward to working with individuals and their loved ones. I hope to offer a safe, confidential and supportive environment for all I meet.

Never be ashamed to say, “I’m worn out. I’ve had enough. I need some time for myself.” That isn’t being selfish. That isn’t being weak. That’s being human. -Anonymous
