Katie Provencher is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in the State of New Hampshire. Ms. Provencher completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pre-law at Notre Dame College in Manchester NH in 2002. She continued her formal education and received a Masters of Social Work Degree from the University of New Hampshire in 2005. While at UNH, Ms. Provencher completed an internship at the Public Defender's office in Manchester. During this experience, she gained an appreciation for the impact treatment has on the success of individuals struggling with substance use disorders involved with the legal system. Ms. Provencher also completed an internship at the Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF). She later became employed at DCYF for a period of eight years.
Ms. Provencher's experience at DCYF allowed her to gain an understanding of the child welfare system. She worked with children and families on developing plans for safety and well being. Ms. Provencher would work with the strengths of families to create healthy parent-child relationships. Following her time at DCYF, Ms. Provencher was employed by New Hampshire Hospital in the Anna Philbrook Center for Children and Adolescents in Concord NH for a period of four years. Ms. Provencher assisted children and adolescents experiencing a mental health crisis and diagnosed with Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety and other mental health conditions. Ms. Provencher was also an individual therapist at Milford Regional Counseling Services where she provided individual therapy for children, adolescents and adults with various mental health diagnoses. Most recently, Ms. Provencher worked at Catholic Medical Center in the Mom's Place and Special Care Nursery. She provided supportive counseling for new parents and parents of infants experiencing medical instability.
Ms. Provencher specializes in working with children, adolescents and adults seeking treatment for a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, self-harm, and mood instability. Ms. Provencher's approach to treatment involves building the therapeutic relationship first to create a comfortable working relationship. Ms. Provencher's style tends to be supportive, with skill development and individualized approach. She believes therapy is about building positive relationships, learning emotional regulation and effective communication. She utilizes a variety of therapeutic interventions, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy, elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness, and Motivational Interviewing to treat many mental health conditions including Mood Disorders, Anxiety, grief & loss, stress management and life transitions.
