Dr. Waite has been working in the mental health field since 2005. She began her career working as a direct care staff for dually-diagnosed adults suffering from an intellectual disability and mental health illness. As she progressed in her education, she gained opportunities to work with children and adolescents with an intellectual disability, autism, and history of trauma. She also began her work with families early on in her career, where she provided in-home support, encouragement, and education to parents at risk of having their children removed from their care due to abuse or neglect. This opportunity to work with parents and families in their homes and communities shaped the manner in which Dr. Waite approaches her clinical evaluation and treatment. Dr. Waite not only takes the time to listen to your story, gaining a comprehensive or holistic view of your difficulties, she helps you identify your strengths and ways you can use those strengths to help navigate stressful moments in your life as well as recover from or manage a mental illness.
Dr. Waite graduated from Walden University with a doctorate of philosophy in clinical psychology. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at a community mental health clinic in Las Vegas, Nevada where she specialized in the assessment and treatment of children and adults with complex histories and symptoms. She continued to work at this clinic for an additional two years while she completed her dissertation on the effects of trauma on memory in adult female victims of intimate partner violence. In addition to working with individuals and families with complex symptoms, she also provided crisis psychiatric assessments in hospital emergency departments throughout Las Vegas as part of this clinic’s mobile crisis team.
Prior to joining The Counseling Center team, Dr. Waite was receiving post-doctoral training in pediatric neuropsychological assessment at a private practice in Los Angeles, California. She has returned to New England to be closer to family and complete her post-doctoral training. Dr. Waite is trained in cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, trauma-focused therapy, mindfulness, play therapy, and sand tray.
