Jim Civiello earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine at Presque Isle in Communications and his master’s degree in Counseling Education from the University of Maine in Orono. Jim continued taking classes so he could become a clinical counselor as well as a guidance counselor.
Jim has worked in a variety of settings throughout his career. He worked at Acadia Hospital, an inpatient psychiatric hospital, working with adults. Jim also worked at the Multiple Handicap Center a school for adults with disabilities. He started his counseling career working with children in Foster Care at Community Health and Counseling Services in Bangor, Maine. Jim then worked as a counselor at the Old Town Regional Program, a school for children with psychiatric and behavioral disorders. He also worked for Bangor Counseling Center for several years where he worked with both children and adults. For the last several years, Jim has worked in New Hampshire at the Seacoast Learning Collaborative, a private school for emotionally and behaviorally challenged children, working in their middle school program.
Jim has experience with both family and individual counseling with both adults and children. He has worked with individuals with ADHD, Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders, PTSD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Reactive Attachment Disorder. He also has experience with school related issues, coping skills, social skills training, grief counseling, life transitions, anger management, parenting, self-esteem and relationship counseling. Jim has experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, person centered therapy, individual psychology and mindfulness. Jim has a calm, non-judgmental demeanor and provides a safe, welcoming environment for his clients.
