About Erika Wilson, MD Available November 2021

I aim for a holistic, non-judgmental view of mental illness symptoms, and take time to educate patients about their illness and treatment options, including medications, behavioral modifications, and complementary therapies. I treat adults 18+, including those with developmental disabilities, and have special experience treating geriatric populations, including those with dementia (though note I am not a Geriatric Psychiatrist). I have extensive experience treating both psychotic illnesses as well as severe and persistent mental illness, and dual-diagnosis patients.

I served as the Medical Director of two inpatient psychiatric units (Adult and Geriatric) previously, as well as served on the Ethics Committee of that hospital. While providing care for patients with neurocognitive disorders (I.e. dementia), I was particularly interested in assisting patients and their families navigate safety and quality of life issues as patient’s aged in their communities. I have experience working in a VA clinic, as well as partnering with local agencies (in N.C.) to provide an accelerated admissions and treatment process for first responders in the area requiring inpatient hospitalization.

Personal Interests:
In addition to spending time with my husband and two young children, I dabble in regenerative gardening, geology and mycology, yoga, power lifting, and outdoor adventures.

Types of services I offer:
Psychiatric evaluations
Ongoing psychiatric medication management
Psychodynamic psychotherapy to complement treatment with medication
Psychiatric evaluations with creation of non-pharmacologic intervention/treatment plans (and follow-ups for modifications)
