About Edgar Hartford, PsyD

Edgar Harford, PsyD has been working in the human service field for 14 years in a variety of settings. He began his career following graduation at Keene State College with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a minor in Psychology in 2004 and began working with at risk youth, youth with behavioral difficulties, complex trauma and larger systemic barriers. He returned to academia earning both his Masters in Mental Health Counseling and Doctoral Degree in Counseling and School Psychology from Rivier University. While completing graduate training, he had the opportunity to complete professional experiences at Rivier Universities Counseling Center, The Pine Haven Bos Group Home, The Youth Development Center, the LUK Crisis Center and also work with the Claremont School District.
Edgar’s clinical approach utilizes Cognitive Behavioral interventions but also includes a client centered approach that is rooted in the development of deep and meaningful interpersonal connection, transparency and honesty. In addition to this framework, he also has experience within various other modalities as well including: Motivational Interviewing, ARC (Attunement, Regulation and Competency) and Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Edgar intends on continuing his education and training in the areas of trauma exposure and care, as well as the field of sleep research and study.
Edgar has considerable experience treating both those who seek to confront barriers within their lives as well as those considered at risk, ranging from teenagers to adults. Areas of specialized treatment may include substance use, depression, anxiety, adjustment issues, grief and loss, trauma and academic/vocational difficulties. His approach is to develop rapport with clients, providing a therapeutic bridge that allows the client to grow and heal appropriately, thus generating more sustainable and meaningful change.
