Donna M. Hastings, Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Her education includes a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA, a MA in School Counseling and an A.G.S. in Elementary Counseling from the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, and a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Antioch New England Graduate School in Keene, New Hampshire.
Most of Dr. Hastings' professional life has been in private practice in New Hampshire. She has recently made the move to Maine to be nearer family. Her experience spans all ages in a variety of settings. She has worked with first responders and both active duty service personnel and veterans.
She is a firm believer of giving back to her community and as a result is a Disaster Mental Health responder for the American Red Cross and has served at both local and national disasters. Other professional experience includes corporate crisis response and deployment with the Disaster Mortuary Operations Response Team.
Often working with her is a certified therapy dog. Tux is a twelve year old gentle border collie/sheltie mix. He is certified through Pet Partners and HOPE Animal Assisted Crisis Response. Therapy dogs are trained to offer comfort and support to all and look forward to being petted. Dr. Hastings and Tux have volunteered for the Red Cross in disaster situations, and have helped alleviate stress at exam times at various schools. If you are uncomfortable with or allergic to dogs, please let her know so she can make arrangements to have Tux not present during your sessions.
Some clients want to know more about the person they are seeing to determine if this therapist would be a good match. Dr. Hastings is happy to discuss her background, approach, and credentials. Others want to immediately focus on the issues they are concerned about and she is prepared to start wherever the client wishes. Please call if you have questions about whether she can help with your particular situation.
