Background and Experience
Charles Schindler is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. He graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Child and Family Relationships. He earned a Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work with a focus on Trauma Recovery from Boston University. Charles has worked in the field of mental health since 2008, first treating teens and then focusing on treating adults with varying mental health diagnoses. Prior to joining the Counseling Center, Charles worked at The Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester for 6 years as a Psychotherapist. In this role he was able to work with a multidisciplinary team of mental health and medical providers, while providing evidence based therapy and case management for clients with major mental health diagnoses.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy has been a strong interest and specialty which had led to his becoming a primary skills leader and then leading trainings for other mental health providers in the use of DBT. Charles is well versed in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma Informed Care as well. In addition to these approaches, Charles uses Mindfulness techniques, Motivational Interviewing and makes use of a Solution Focused approach. He is also certified in CBT for Insomnia treatment and also in Cognitive Processing Therapy.
Charles’ interests include helping those with anxiety, mood disorders, trauma history, personality disorders and life transitions to name a few. He is comfortable and trained to work with other disorders and struggles as needed. Charles has received significant training and has a long history working with members of the LGBT+ community.
