Dr. Brittany Burkins grew up in Massachusetts and completed her training in the New England area. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience from Stonehill College and earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology (PsyD) with a concentration in neuropsychology at William James College in Massachusetts.
Dr. Burkins trained in neuropsychological assessment within various treatment settings. She received training providing assessments in school, outpatient, and inpatient hospital settings to individuals with a variety of cognitive, behavioral, and psychological presentations.
She has experience assessing for disorders including specific learning disabilities, concussions, ADHD, and psychiatric disorders such as mood disorders, personality disorders, and psychotic disorders. Dr. Burkins has provided assessments across the lifespan in an outpatient setting with head injuries, memory disorders, stroke, Alzheimer’s Disease, and other neurological conditions. Additionally, Dr. Burkins was trained in providing therapeutic interventions to children, adolescents, and adults in outpatient and inpatient hospital settings. Dr. Burkins completed her doctoral internship at Royal Oaks Hospital in Missouri, where she specialized in the treatment of children and adolescents in acute crisis.
She completed her doctoral dissertation on the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and executive functioning in adolescents. In the past she’s conducted groups using the model of Cognitive Enhancement Restructuring Therapy. She is familiar with assessments related to IQ, executive functioning, and personality (including R-PAS). Provided evidence-based psychotherapy to individuals hospitalized for treatment of serious and persistent mental illness (including use of both DBT, CBT treatment models).
Dr. Burkins is currently participating in completion of neuropsychological evaluations in order to provide diagnostic clarification, identify functional impairments, and to strengthen treatment planning. She’ll be receiving postdoctoral training in neuropsychological consultation to children, adolescents, and adults of all age groups with a variety of clinical presentations.
