Shannon is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with a Master's degree in social work from Virginia Commonwealth University (1994) and a Bachelor's degree in social work from Longwood University (1990). Throughout her behavioral health care career as a clinician, she has worked in a variety of medical as well as mental health settings, both in-patient and out-patient.

Her experience includes having practiced clinical social work in Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire. Populations have included: children, adolescents, young adults, adults, and elderly. Modalities of treatment include individual, couples, family, and group work. She has specialized in work with individuals suffering from mood disorders, anxiety and grief as a result of life situations/stressors, abuse and trauma.

While in Virginia, she was the intake coordinator and clinical supervisor for a team that provided services to individuals with neuro-developmental issues. Treatment modality was primarily Cognitive Behavioral Approach. Shannon utilizes techniques from Solution Focused therapy and is a strong believer in Cognitive Behavioral skills such as: behavioral coping, exposure, stress inoculation, and cognitive processing. She uses mindfulness skills to help decrease stress and anxiety.

Her most recent venture included that of Integrated Care Clinician (Behavioral Health) within a medical practice in Concord. Strong assessment, brief intervention, crisis management, and diagnostic skills were necessary. She brings positive energy and an optimistic outlook into the therapy process. She maintains a strong belief in the power of resiliency, strength, and self-determination in others. She sees her role as an agent of change and facilitator, alongside the individual(s) with whom she is working. She believes most people desire positive change in their lives.

She initiates that change, through the therapeutic relationship, by active listening, problem solving, encouragement, and genuine care. Shannon takes her role of therapist seriously and finds the work she does with others to be an honor. Having someone trust you with their pain, their life story, is incredibly brave and deserves a kindness and commitment which she strives to provide.
