Heather Friedman joined The Counseling Center in 2018. She began working in the behavioral
health field in 2004, when she provided in home ABA therapy to children and teens with Autism.
She received her Master's in Counseling from Arizona State University in 2008. During her career,
Heather has worked as a therapist in a variety of treatment settings including in home, community
mental health outpatient and private outpatient. She has also worked as a clinical supervisor for
Southwest Human Development in Arizona, guiding the work of therapists who provide treatment to
parents with DCS involvement.
Heather spent several years working with children, teens and their families in Phoenix, Arizona
prior to moving to New Hampshire. This allowed her to provide individual, family and group
counseling services to individuals of all ages with a wide variety of presenting concerns. She
treated multiple presentations including behaviors and symptoms related to adjustment disorders,
trauma, self harm-behaviors, bereavement, anxiety and mood disorders, emotional dysregulation,
family system issues, domestic violence and stage of life issues. Heathers experience treating
Autism earlier in her career allows her to also provide therapy to individuals with a spectrum
diagnosis who also require therapy for emotional concerns.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to mental health treatment and no two clients have the same
presenting concerns. Heather pulls from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical
Behavioral Therapy (DBT) while also utilizing motivational interviewing, mindfulness, meditation and
solution focused techniques in therapy. She is also an EMDR provider. When working with children
and teens, Heather incorporates art and play into therapy sessions as well as family systems
