Carol Kilgour, Ph.D.

Dr. Kilgour holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She completed her pre-doctoral internship and her post-doctoral fellowship at the University of California, Davis (UCD) where she provided individual and couples psychotherapy for faculty, staff, graduate students, and their immediate families. In addition, she provided organizational consultations to faculty and staff, coached junior faculty working toward tenure, and offered faculty support groups. Prior to her appointment at UC Davis, she spent three years at the Austin Psychological and Testing Center where she focused on outpatient assessment and treatment of adults and adolescents, in addition to conducting comprehensive psychological and psycho-educational evaluations. Her areas of interest in the assessment field include emotional and personality assessment, cognitive assessment, learning disability and ADHD assessment, memory and neuropsychological assessment and developmental assessment.

Dr. Kilgour also holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, a M.Sc. in Industrial Petrology from the University of London and a B.Sc. in Applied Chemistry from the Nottingham Trent University in England. Prior to embarking on a career in psychology, she was a tenured professor of Civil Engineering at Iowa State University, and her prior career as a scientist and researcher allowed her to work in Europe, Australia and the Far East.

Dr. Kilgour's interests span several disciplines and she maintains an overarching commitment to the psychological wellbeing, development, and education of individuals of all ages. She maintains a general practice at The Counseling Center, including both counseling and psychological/neuropsychological and psychoeducational testing of adults and adolescents. She has expertise in treating clients with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, multicultural issues, grief, loss, family issues, women's issues, and identity issues. She enjoys working with individuals with multicultural backgrounds. Based on the individual needs of her clients and by utilizing their inimitable strengths, she develops for each client a unique and integrative approach to therapy, drawing from psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, and solution-focused approaches to therapy to help individuals restore psychological balance and promote personal growth.
