Clare Humphreys, Ph.D.
Dr. Clare Humphreys graduated cum laude from Smith College with a bachelor’s degree in
neuroscience and a research focus on the molecular basis of Alzheimer’s disease. Prior to
graduate school, she was a summer research fellow at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN) in the
department of Molecular Pharmacology, and went on to earn her doctoral degree in Counseling
Psychology and Neuropsychology at the University of Iowa, where she had the opportunity to
train in the Benton Laboratory of Neuropsychology.
While in graduate school, she trained at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in
outpatient neurology, psychiatry, and inpatient medical psychiatry units. Dr. Humphreys was
awarded the University of Iowa Presidential Fellowship to support her graduate training and
research based on her outstanding first year academic and research performance, received a
competitive dissertation fellowship, and was the recipient of the Excellence in Campus
Leadership award from the American Psychological Association during her graduate school
years. She completed internship at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she worked with
psychiatrically, medically, and neurological complex patients in the Memory Disorders Unit,
epilepsy service, and movement disorders service among others. Dr. Humphreys completed a
two-year post-doctoral fellowship with the Harvard Partners Consortium, conducting
neuropsychological assessments at the Psychology Assessment Center at Massachusetts
General Hospital and the Division of Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology at Brigham and
Women’s Hospital, where she became a faculty member following fellowship. In addition to
being a member of this interdisciplinary team, she was tasked with establishing a
neuropsychology program at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, offering clinical services to patients
coping with the cognitive impact of major medical illness and treatment. She has been an
Instructor in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School for the past four years, and an active teacher
and supervisor. She has been a lead or contributing author of several professional journal
articles, and lectures on the cognitive impact of cancer and its treatment.
Dr. Humphreys specializes in providing neuropsychological assessments to adults ranging in
age from young adults to geriatrics with a variety of presenting concerns, including memory
disorders, medical conditions, and neurological illnesses impacting cognition.
